Care & Use
- Are your vessels dishwasher safe? Yes, but hand-and-washing is recommended to preserve the beauty and longevity of each piece.
- Can I use them in the microwave? While the vessels are microwave-safe, avoid extreme temperature changes. Let boiled water cool slightly before pouring, and never place a hot vessel directly into cold water to avoid thermal shock.
- Are they oven safe? Yes, but warm them gradually. Never place a cold vessel in a preheated oven or on a direct heat source like a stovetop. Allow pieces to come to room temperature first.
- How do I care for my Nakoma vessels? Treat them with reverence – hand wash with gentle soap, avoid abrasive scrubbers, and store them safely away from edges where they could be knocked over.
- Are they food-safe? Yes, all pieces use food-safe glazes and are fired at high temperatures to ensure safe consumption of both hot and cold substances.
About the Clay & Process
- Where does the wild clay come from? The clay is foraged from the Slovenian land that has held me for 28 years – each vessel carries the spirit of these specific places.
- What is wood-fire kiln firing? Traditional wood-fire kiln firing is a ceremonial process where pieces are fired using wood as fuel. This creates unique, unpredictable effects as ash settles on the vessels during firing, connecting all four elements.
- Do pieces look slightly different from photos? Each vessel is entirely handmade from wild clay and wood-fired, making every piece truly one-of-a-kind. Variations in texture, color, and form are not flaws but celebrations of the handmade process and the Earth’s expressions.
- What makes your pottery different? The entire process – from foraging wild clay to traditional wood-kiln firing – honors ancient ways and the Earth’s heartbeat. Each piece is a conversation with the Earth, not a product.
