This is Nakoma. The origins of the name go back to indigenous people of so called America, who I respect and value so much. Nakoma means warrior spirit, and I think it describes my pottery wholesomly. Nakomas or soul mugs as some like to call them, are here to let you be in stillness. I’ve read somewhere that having your favorite piece for drinking or eating out of it, fitting in your hand perfectly, not only gives food different flavor but it makes the experience of drinking or eating more wholesome.

What drives this brand is cultivating compassion through passing on the knowledge and stories. And with knowledge, I mean deeply felt and experienced, not only jerking on intellectual superioriry. Nakoma wants to give you space for finding – or rather remembering the values and connections we have lost. Within ourselves, between ourselves, and between other beings and creatures on this planet.

I’d like to promote having less, not needing sets of cheap plates just to fill the cupboards in our kitchen, but rather choosing our ware mindfully and intentionally. And thinking about who are we supporting with our money influx. I believe in slowness, resilience, balance between inner peace and community work, and I believe in the abolishion of this unjust system. Using specific materials from different locations, from clay, rocks and minerals is a rebellion on its own. It’s taking the land back in a reciprocal way.

In developing my vessels I search for gentleness, vulnerability and cultivation of inner strenght. They are created from the wholeness of human psyche with a shadowy, rough side by the touch and a light, smooth side – like we all are. With the feeling of warmth on my hands, the sun on my face and the smell of tea and pine trees. Breathing in the moments of mindfulness.
